CONNECT Q3 2011 Innovation Report shows spike in innovation economy activity
February 2, 2012 - CONNECT's newly released Third Quarter 2011 Innovation Report shows the dynamism of San Diego's innovation economy in new tech company creation, patent activity growth and attraction of federal research grant dollars in the third quarter of 2011. In the Report, VC funding shows an increasing move to early stage San Diego companies. The Report shows that 91 technology start-ups were established, compared to 76 in the previous quarter, an increase of 20 percent. In all, 237 new tech companies were established in the first three quarters of 2011. These ventures translate into 200 new jobs in the third quarter and 500 for the first nine months of 2011. Throughout California, tech start-ups created more than 1,690 jobs in the third quarter and 4,300 for the first three quarters. Continue reading »
San Diego County 2011 Visitor Industry General Facts
The San Diego visitor industry is the third largest industry in San Diego County, employing approximately 152,300 San Diegans. It is one of the top five leisure vacation destinations in the U.S. and a top 10 business destination as measured by visitor-days. Visitors spend $7 billion annually at thousands of businesses in the County. November 7, 2011 - CONNECT's newly released Second Quarter 2011 Innovation Report shows the number of San Diego tech start-ups in the second quarter of 2011 was up almost 20% over the same quarter last year with 76 new companies.
