Kelly Cunningham, National University System - NO: Successful firms will not remain too big and powerful as long as other firms enter into the marketplace. Despite Google’s current dominance for now, other search engines are available and compete with additional alternatives and more innovations. Even the most successful companies face competition from entrepreneurs coming up with greater improvements and lower prices. Monopoly power is only possible, theoretically and empirically, by governments protecting privileged firms from competition and restricting entry into the marketplace.
