"As symbolic gesture, San Diego hotels could keep room rates at “normal” levels during the month of July. But hosting Comic-Con at the height of the travel season means room rates are not - and should not be - discounted. Room rates necessarily rise to meet consumer demand, otherwise shortages occur and rooms are not available for convention travelers. Not having enough rooms to accommodate attendees would be another disincentive for hosting Comic-Con in San Diego."
