That strategy is in stark contrast to many other congressional Democrats who distanced themselves much further from the president this fall, said Vince Vasquez, senior policy analyst for the National University System Institute for Policy Research.
“He walked a fine line on Obama and that made the president a non-issue in the race,” said Vasquez, noting that Democrats in some states refused to mention the president and even denied voting for him in 2012.
