“If labor participation is falling because large numbers of baby boomers are retiring with adequate savings and retirement income, then it is good,” said Kelly Cunningham, senior fellow and economist at the National University System Institute for Policy Research. “But if it is because they are unable to find appropriate work and are adding to welfare/disability/Social Security numbers, and putting more strain on already underfunded government and overburdened working population supporting them, I would argue it is not so good.”
